Here’s yet another reason to hate cockroaches (as if you were starting to soften on the critters): They might be contributing to the prevalence of childhood asthma. In a newly published study, researchers from Columbia University found that children living in neighborhoods with high asthma rates were twice as likely to have been exposed to cockroaches. The study might help explain why some New York City areas have childhood asthma rates of nearly 20 percent, while others are as low as 3 percent.
